Moon phases and what they mean
The lunar cycle is divided into eight phases. Astrological tradition links the waxing Moon with gathering strength and starting things, and the waning Moon with finishing, sorting out and rest.
New moon
The Moon is not visible. A time of quiet and intentions: think about what you want from the new cycle, write down plans, don’t rush into action.
Waxing crescent
A thin crescent appears. Good for first steps, gathering information and trying new things on a small scale.
First quarter
Half the disc is lit. The moment of first obstacles and decisions: what to continue and what to change while there is time.
Waxing gibbous
More and more light. Energy is rising — a time for active work, meetings and bringing what you started to a visible result.
Full moon
The Moon is fully lit. A peak of emotion and clarity: a lot becomes visible. Good for taking stock and thanking yourself for what you have done.
Waning gibbous
The light is shrinking. A time to share what you have learned, tidy up and let go of what you no longer need.
Last quarter
Half the disc is lit again. Review and completion: tie up loose ends, keep promises, make space.
Waning crescent
A thin crescent before the new moon. Rest, recovery, attention to body and sleep — getting ready for the new cycle.

How the lunar day is counted
The lunar day is the number of the day in the cycle from one new moon to the next. A lunar month has 29 or 30 days. COSMEYA counts the lunar day by the Moon’s age: the number of full days since the new moon, plus one. Each calendar date is evaluated at local noon.
Some calendars count lunar days from moonrise over a particular town. Then the number depends on the place and can differ from ours by a day — that isn’t a mistake, just a different way of counting.
How to use the moon calendar
- Tap a day in the calendar to see its phase, lunar day and Moon sign, and use the button below to open the forecast for that date.
- Flip through months with the arrows: the calendar works for any date, not just the current month.
- Look for rhythm, not rules. The moon calendar is a tradition and a guide. It helps you notice your own rhythm and choose your timing consciously — it doesn’t promise success or failure.
- Check it against yourself. If you really do sleep worse at the full moon and crave quiet at the new moon, the calendar helps you plan for it.
