Your map of places
Enter your birth date, exact time and place and COSMEYA will draw the lines of ten celestial bodies on a world map. Hover over or tap a line to see what it means.
The calculation runs in your browser. The lines are the astronomically exact places where the planets rose, set and culminated at your birth.
What astrocartography is
The technique was devised by the American astrologer Jim Lewis in the 1970s, who called it Astro*Carto*Graphy. The idea is simple: at the moment you were born, each planet was rising above the horizon for one part of the Earth, setting for another, high overhead somewhere and directly underfoot somewhere else. Mark all those places on a map and you get lines.
The birth chart calculated for your hometown stays your chart. But according to astrocartography, near a line the matching planet speaks louder — as if you had been born where it stood on the horizon or overhead.
The four kinds of lines
- AC
Ascendant line
The planet was rising. Its theme colours how you come across and how you feel: here you “become” that planet.
- DC
Descendant line
The planet was setting. Its theme shows up through other people: partners, clients, the people you meet.
- MC
MC line
The planet was overhead. It is tied to career, reputation and what you are known for.
- IC
IC line
The planet was underfoot. It is tied to home, roots, family and a sense of grounding.
On the map, MC and IC lines are straight north–south meridians. Ascendant and descendant lines curve — more and more the farther they are from the equator.
Planetary lines and their themes
| Planet | Themes near its lines |
|---|---|
| Sun | Visibility, confidence, recognition, vitality |
| Moon | Home and comfort, family, emotional closeness, a sense of belonging |
| Mercury | Study, communication, trade, writing, contacts |
| Venus | Relationships, beauty, pleasure, art, money through what you enjoy |
| Mars | Energy, sport, competition, courage — and conflict |
| Jupiter | Growth, luck, travel, education, generosity |
| Saturn | Structure and responsibility, long effort, being tested |
| Uranus | Change, freedom, surprises, technology |
| Neptune | Inspiration, creativity, spirituality — and illusions |
| Pluto | Deep transformation, power, intensity |
No line is “bad”. A Saturn line can be a place of hard work and respect; a Venus line can be a place where it’s easy to relax and hard to focus.
Using the map for moving, study and travel
Moving
See which lines pass near the cities on your list. Does their theme match what you are moving for: work, family, a fresh start?
Study and career
Mercury and Jupiter lines are linked with learning and growth, MC lines with professional visibility.
Travel and holidays
For rest, people look for Venus, Moon and Jupiter lines; for adventure, Mars and Uranus.
Looking back
Recall places where life felt especially good or hard and find them on the map. It is the best way to check whether the method works for you.
An example: how to read a line
Jupiter is linked with growth, luck and expansion, and the MC line with career and visibility. Together they read as a place where professional opportunities may come more easily: it’s easier to find your people, gain recognition and take on a bigger project.
It isn’t a promise of success but a hint: if you are already choosing between several cities for work, a line like this is a reason to look at that option more closely.
This is a made-up example. Your lines are calculated from your own birth details.
Why you need an exact birth time
The Earth turns one degree every four minutes. If your birth time is four minutes off, every line shifts by a degree of longitude — about 110 kilometres at the equator and about 70 at the latitude of London. Half an hour off shifts the lines by more than 800 kilometres at the equator, and the map loses its meaning.
Limitations
Astrocartography is a symbolic view, not a guarantee. A line has no strict “range”: people usually look at a few hundred kilometres around it, and the closer you are, the stronger the accent.
A decision to move is best made on life’s terms — work, loved ones, language, climate, money. The map can add another angle, but it shouldn’t be the main argument. Start with your birth chart to see which planets matter most for you.
Questions & answers
There is no strict rule: people usually look at a band of a few hundred kilometres around a line, and the closer you are, the stronger the accent. It is an astrological convention, not a measurable effect.
Yes. The Earth turns a degree every four minutes, so an error in your time shifts every line — by up to 110 km at the equator for every four minutes.
As an extra lens, yes. The map shows which themes astrology links with a place, but the decision is best made with work, loved ones, language and other real circumstances in mind.
That’s normal: there are forty lines and the planet is big. Then the place is described by your ordinary birth chart without extra accents — often a calm, neutral place.
