What numerology is
Numerology is a symbolic system that gives numbers qualities. It traces itself back to the Pythagorean tradition: in ancient Greece a number was seen not just as a measure of quantity but as a principle through which the world could be described. Modern Western numerology took shape in the 20th century and uses the numbers 1 to 9 plus three master numbers — 11, 22 and 33.
Numerology is not a science and not a way to predict events. We offer it as one more language for talking about yourself: numbers hint at which qualities may be strong in you and which themes keep coming back.
Life path number: how to calculate it
The life path number is the key number in numerology, sometimes called the destiny number. It describes your main storyline: the qualities you are here to develop and where you feel in your element.
Write out the full date
Day, month and year — all the digits in a row. For example, 14.07.1991.
Add up all the digits
1 + 4 + 0 + 7 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 1 = 32.
Reduce to one digit
3 + 2 = 5. The life path number is 5.
Check for master numbers
If you get 11, 22 or 33 at any step, don’t reduce it: that is your answer.
Numerology schools count differently: some reduce the day, month and year separately first. We add up all the digits — that way the result is easy to check by hand.

Master numbers 11, 22 and 33
Two-digit numbers made of the same digit are not reduced in numerology: they are thought to amplify the qualities of their “base” digit and add a particular task. Carrying a master number isn’t a privilege — it is a more demanding storyline.
- 11
Intuition and inspiration
The Two’s sensitivity raised to a new level: fine perception, ideas, the ability to inspire. The task is to trust yourself without getting lost in anxiety.
- 22
Master builder
The Four’s practicality on a large scale: the ability to bring big plans to life. The task is not to be daunted by the size of your potential.
- 33
Master teacher
The Six’s care turned towards many: support, mentoring, service. The task is to help without forgetting yourself.
Name numbers
Every letter has a value from 1 to 9, using the Pythagorean table: the alphabet written out in order in nine columns. The sum of a name’s values, reduced to one digit or a master number, gives three numbers.
Expression number
All the letters of your full name. It describes your abilities and how you show yourself in what you do.
Soul number
Vowels only. It speaks of your inner motives — what you really want.
Personality number
Consonants only. It shows how others see you when they first meet you.

For Latin names, Y counts as a consonant. For Cyrillic names, Ё is a letter of its own, and the hard and soft signs count towards the expression and personality numbers.
Personal year and the nine-year cycle
Your personal year shows the theme of the current year in a nine-year cycle. To find it, add the digits of your birth day and month to the digits of the current year and reduce the sum to one digit. For a birthday on 14 July in 2026: 1 + 4 + 0 + 7 + 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 22 → 2 + 2 = 4.
| Year | Theme |
|---|---|
| 1 | A new cycle: fresh plans, decisions, bold steps |
| 2 | Patience and partnership: relationships, agreements, gathering |
| 3 | Self-expression: communication, creativity, a wider circle |
| 4 | Foundations: work, order, discipline, health |
| 5 | Change: freedom, travel, unexpected openings |
| 6 | Responsibility: family, home, caring for loved ones |
| 7 | Pause and reflection: study, inner work, rest |
| 8 | Results: career, money, recognition for your work |
| 9 | Completion: taking stock, letting go, preparing for the new |

Questions & answers
Add up all the digits of your birth date and keep reducing until you get one digit. For example, 14.07.1991: 1 + 4 + 0 + 7 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 1 = 32, and 3 + 2 = 5. Sums of 11, 22 and 33 are not reduced — they are master numbers.
Usually yes: both names are used for the sum of the birth date digits. But some schools call the name number the destiny number, so at COSMEYA we always say what each number is calculated from.
Traditionally you use your full name at birth: it describes your starting qualities. You can calculate your current name separately — it shows how you come across now.
